Sensitivity towards Human Rights, Gender and Good Governance: The issues of human rights, gender, and good governance are always given a strong focus under its programme. Almost all of the training courses that CRD offers for community based organization’s staff and target beneficiaries focus on these issues. CRD has been involved in raising awareness of human rights reducing gender disparity in local government and helping marginalized people to create pressure on decision makers at the local and national level. CRD promotes the empowerment and socio-economic advancement of women through supporting local level initiatives, holding training programs of gender issues, promoting public awareness of women’s rights, and undertaking advocacy to increase women’s participation in local governance and other development process.

CRD at a Glance:

The Centre for Rights and Development – CRD is a national non-governmental and non profit organization that works with the disadvantaged people, including the indigenous community to improve their standard of living through partnership with local community organizations and multifaceted development interventions. It firmly believes that the quality of lives of the deprived section of the population is enhanced by strengthening advocacy, lobbying, and networking among the local community based organizations and the promotion of good governance at the local and national level. It also emphasizes gender equity, and legal and human rights, especially of women and children, and ethnic groups throughout the country.
Institutional Strength:

The organization started its activities to support the local grass-roots communities to promote and strengthen native initiatives for self-help development. As the organization got maturity and with the passage of time the emphasis has been shifted more to capacity building of these community based organizations by initiating information, education, motivation and communications, and legal support services. Currently over 200 community based organizations (CBOs/Groups) are supported by CRD in various ways.
